Dragon Garden Midgard (竜園のミッドガル, Ryūen no Middogaru) is the first episode of the Unlimited Fafnir anime series. It premiered on January 8, 2015.

Synopsis Edit

25 years before the start of the series, massive creatures known as Dragons began appearing around the world, causing widespread destruction before vanishing. Shortly afterwards, humans with powers similar to that of Dragons were born and came to be known as D.

In the present day, young D Yuu Mononobe is sent to Midgard and comes across a naked Iris Freyja. In her panic, Iris tries to attack him, only to be blasted by her own power. After she comes to, Yuu frantically explains that he's not an intruder, showing his status as a NIFL soldier. Their discussion is interrupted by Mitsuki Mononobe, Yuu's sister, who informs him that he will be a student in Midgard from now on. Afterwards, Yuu is introduced to Haruka Shinomiya, homeroom teacher of Brynhildr Class and Midgard's commander, where he is informed about Midgard's role. Yuu is then placed into Brynhildr Class, where he faces opposition from Lisa Highwalker and performs dark matter transmutation to prove his status as a D.

In the ensuing practice drill for the upcoming operation against 'Red' Basilisk, Yuu is given a crash course in the fighting methods against Dragons from Haruka. He is also told about how the Dragons seek Ds as their mates, and that a D's dragon mark changes color when she is targeted by a Dragon, transforming her into the same kind of Dragon upon contact. Following Iris' failure at transmutation, Yuu has a chat with her, where she explains to him her reason for fighting against Dragons. However, their discussion is interrupted when an emergency alert sounds, announcing 'White' Leviathan's approach, while at the same time, Iris' dragon mark starts changing color.

Trivia Edit

Differences between Light Novel and Anime Edit

  • In the Light Novel, Yuu participated in the training exercise and was the one who saved Iris when her powers misfired.
  • The special training sessions for Iris to master her explosion powers and for Yuu to form his Fictional Armament were omitted, as was the selection test for the Counter-Dragon Squad.
